|Hacienda Hotel, El Segundo
|Okay, not IN the area. It's on the other side of the runway and a few good blocks away well into El
Segundo. Still, it's part of the "collection" I guess. While casually searching through the net, I bumped into
the origins of this place. It was originally called The Thunderbird as these postcards attest to. Thank you
|Here's a aerial shot of a section of Sepulveda Blvd. from the late 60's. The upper part is the Hacienda, lower is the
former location of the Jolly Roger. A more obscure point o' interest is the apartment complex on the other side of
the parking lot between the two noted structures was called the Stardust and it was fashioned after the Stardust in
Las Vegas. Man, apartment living in them days!!
|ABOVE and RIGHT:
Just a small snippets from the of Hacienda
with an old brochure cover from 1980 to
boot. Yes, I was THAT bored in El
Segundo enough to check out this place.
Ah, what can you do?
I didn't even know the hotel hosted a tiki bar/cafe. I
suspect it didn't last lone. This photo was lifted The Sound
Of Tiki, a audio companion to The Book Of Tiki. You'll
hear more about this book in the Polynesian Village page!
